I LOVE DIANA ESTILL BOOKS HAVE READ AND LOVED MOST OF THEM THAT SHE HAS WRITTEN I WISH PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE BOOKS WOULDN'T THEM. I LOVE BOOKS AND I LOVE READING BOOKS. AND THIS BOOK IS GREAT FUN.
As an over 45 reader I related to so much of what this book said. I laughed and read parts of it out loud to my husband. So many of the things in this book I read/laughed/and said ...I've done that or been there! I laughed thru the whole book.
Not this author. She greets it with tongue-in-cheek humor the borders on total truth. Why DID we ruin our toes and feet to prance around in pointy toed shoes with killer high heels?
I find her humor appealing on every level. I see my aging self in so many of the books scenarios.
Her humor gives me hope that in aging not all is lost if you can still laugh at life.
I just couldn't stop reading Diana's books and this was my last one! I need Diana to write another book because I am now going through withdrawal! Stilettos No More kept my in tears from laughing so much and there were times when I felt like she was writing about me turning 50! I am telling you, walk don't run and buy this book! It will make you smile, laugh and realize it's ok to be hitting that 50 mark!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. In a collection of hilarious essays, Ms. Estill puts into words the frustration and helplessness of being a 'mature' woman. Several of them made me laugh out loud as I sat in my chair reading - made for some curious looks from my husband.. and the dogs... Anyway, her explanation for these random wild hairs we discover in strange places really hit a home run! If you want to sit with a cup of coffee (or wine?) and escape for awhile, this is your book!
Mildly humorous look at various aspects of a woman aging.
I picked up this book free during an giveaway. As another aging woman, I simply didn't find Estill's essays very funny. I never wore stilettos and don't own a body shaper now, nor can I imagine any circumstances under which I would want to wear one. Maybe someone who was as obsessed with her outer appearance as Estill apparently is would find it funnier and more arresting than I did. As is, I didn't even get halfway through before giving up.
Sometime around 50 you realize you've said goodbye to your youth and hello to world of bodyshapers, random hair growth and senior specials - whether you want them or not. You can spiral into a funk or you can laugh. Stilettos No More helps you laugh, and laugh and laugh!
Diana Estill takes a humorous look at life from the top of the hill looking down. The age hill, that is. She's not afraid to talk about those "things" that start happening when you get to a certain age. Even better, not only can she laugh at them, but she makes the rest of us laugh too. Especially when we're recognizing ourselves at every turn! Who knew ¾ sleeves had a practical purpose?
Some humor collections have peaks and valleys. This book is a steady stream; each essay flowing into the next, each just as funny or funnier than the one before it. Extremely well-crafted.
A snappy read, Stilettos No More is a collection of essays that makes you smile, and at the same time be comforted that you're not alone in your quest for the nearest bathroom. You'll definitely want to share with family and friends. Highly recommended.
